BUILT LIKE A FORMULA ONE CAR !

I bought this to use as an EDC. But after looking at the construction and quality materials used. I’ve put this knife away. The bearings in the pivots make this a very smooth knife. One hand open and closing. The blade sits centered in frame. There has no blade play. The blade is razor sharp. It’s a pleasure to look at. The construction rivals a F1 car. Truly the best looking “Flipper” in my collection. I’ve heard Al Mar was bought out by another company. Used to be manufactured in Japan. Now they are built in China. BUT the build quality has endured. My first Al Mar knife. And it won’t be my last. Later people. CHINASPRINGER

My third

My third Quicksilver. The other two were put away in my collection. Please read my reviews on this product. BUT I just had to have one for my EDC. One hand open and close. So well made and a joy to flip. Some people collect stamps. I collect Al Mar’s Quicksilvers. Your mileage may vary. CHINASPRINGER

Realistically a $200 Knife

No blade play and she is dead-centered upon arrival...this thing is gorgeous in person. I know the dimensions are clearly listed but when you first open it the size is surprising, but she is incredibly light in the hand at the same time. Its one of those knives you purchase and realize its too nice to EDC...it would just feel wrong. So, I just ordered a second one haha...one to use and one to collect. I would not have been disappointed if I had paid $200 for this knife, so getting it on sale for anything below $150 feels like you stole it.

An Impressive Knife For The Money

I just received my Al Mar Quicksilver (AMK4046) yesterday and thought I would post some preliminary impressions. Fit and finish are overall very good. Timing is a little early but lockup is firm and centering is perfect. The blade was disappointingly dull out-of-box, but it had a good angle on the edge so it didn't take long on my Lansky to get it razor sharp. It is advertised as D2 steel but I didn't see anywhere on the box, literature, or anywhere on the knife itself that said as much. I like the reversible deep carry pocket clip. The handle is a tad over 6", so if I choke back on the handle the tip of the blade protrudes nearly 7" past my hand. Pretty impressive for such a light blade. The handle holes provide some traction, but not much. I suspect skateboard tape would fix it for use as an emergency back up tactical blade if desired. The blade deployment is smooth but the flipper seems a bit too small due to the length of the blade and the leverage required to open it quickly. A longer flipper would allow a more positive deployment in my opinion. There are smallish holes on the flipper tabs so you could conceivably place a zip tie on the business end for faster "waveable" deployment, but it would only allow for a small one. Not sure how effective that would be but it might be worth a try. Even with the small negatives I'm pretty happy with my purchase and think it will fit nicely into my collection.

Flawless, almost

The construction, fit, and finish of this knife is flawless. I gave it a 4 because the manufacturer chose to make the pivot screw free floating, and them put some sort of thread locker on it. What this means is that the end user cannot "tune" the tightness of the pivot to their liking. With 5 inches of D2, it is very easy to "throw" the blade open one handed. This might be categorized as a "gravity knife" in some jurisdictions. And of course, depending on where you are, anything over a 3" or 4" blade length might be considered prohibited as well. Fortunately for me, I do not live where these I have to worry about these issues. If you watched the video, they made a passing reference to using the lower quillion to catch the edge of a (reinforced) pocket or "open on withdraw" like an Emerson blade. To the best of my knowledge, the Coid Steel Ti-Lite was the first folding pocket knife that made use of a lower quillion for this type of presentation. With 3-4 practice withdraws, the Al Mar presents just as quickly as my 4" AUS-8 Ti-Lites. And it is actually flatter in the pocket and rides deeper. Overall, superbly executed. I'm glad I ordered 2!

I won't buy Al Mar again

The knife is OK but the customer service is no existent. The pocket clip fell off. I though for a heart stopping moment I'd lost the knife at first. I've tried contacting them through the website and their contact email. I just want to buy a pocket clip and screws. No response or acknowledgement. Compared to companies like Kershaw, it is embarrassing. New owners and a new attitude. it is a shame for a brand like Al Mar.

To Techsec: contact the retailer, not the manufacturer!

Loss of pocket clip due to loose screw is not acceptable, but your best choice of retribution is through the retailer, not the manufacturer! The manufacturer doesn't know you, but the retailer does, and is dependent on your continuing business!
