CRM2114DSFG: M21-14DSFG Carson Special Forces

CRKT

Introducing another line of military knives for desert environments: CRKT's premium-quality G10 folders at a value price.

After CRKT's success of process of developing their line of Carson special forces G10 M16 and M21 models, it became apparent that there was a demand for these models from coalition forces serving in desert environments.

Just like their black tactical counterparts, these knives share a unique design offering a combination of Carson SF series features requested by military procurement specialists. All have combined Razor-Sharp and Veff Serrated edges. The open build allows two Carson Flippers to be incorporated, resulting in a true hilt— up to now rare in folding knives.

Blade and scales are non-reflective Desert Tan. Premium 8Cr14 stainless steel blades receive titanium nitride coating for maximum corrosion resistance. Kit's trademark dual checkered thumb studs are standard. On all models, one-hand opening and closing is quick and smooth.

The open InterFrame build uses Desert Tan scales of G10, and stainless steel liners with friction grooves. G10 is often preferred for its aggressive gripping texture, light weight, and the insulating properties which make it cooler in heat and warmer in cold than metal.

All models feature CRKT's exclusive patented* AutoLAWKS safety, which automatically turns the folders into fixed blades when the blade is opened and locked.

M21-14DSFG G10

This is the choice for those who prefer the M21 deep-bellied blade shape. The blade is also 3.875" (9.8 cm) long, and the handle is the same size and shape as on the larger M16-14DSFG.

All knives in this series are equipped with clip options that allow four-position carry on belts or webbing— tip up, tip down, left or right. (Caution: These knives are not designed for tip-up in-pocket carry.)

They are special knives, designed by the military for special forces desert use.

About the Knife Designer

Kit Carson of Vine Grove, Kentucky, is a retired professional soldier, rising to the level of Sergeant Major. He has made knives for 30 years and has been a full-time knifemaker since 1993. He is a voting member of the Knifemakers' Guild. Kit has been an avid hunter and fisherman for over 40 years, growing up enjoying the woods and trout streams in the mountains of north Georgia. About his philosophy of knife design, he says: "I strive to follow form and function in the knives I design and build. My reputation has been built around solid working knives, both fixed blade and folders. All the time spent outdoors as a young man and the time spent around the world with the Army has strongly influenced the knives I create." Nothing reflects this approach more than the Carson Design of CRKT's M16 series, which is built for function, not to follow fads. This highly successful knife series was named one of the Top 10 Factory Tactical Folders of the Decade by Blade magazine. The M16-14M recently won a comparison test conducted by Germany's Messer magazine.

Pros: Handle Material, Blade Material
Cons: Lock Ease of Use
Almost a 5 Star
I own several CRKT blades, fixed and folder and they all are very good knives. The 8Cr14steel came razor sharp, and is easy to dress on a diamond hone. I chose this model for the heft and size, both open & closed. Although a Tanto style blade makes for great stabbing/thrusting, the utility of a spear point makes more sense for everyday use. Prefer the AutoLAWKS safety system to prevent inadvertent closure of the blade on the hand during hard use. My only slighty negative is the simultaneous engaging of the LAWKS system with the liner lock is difficult at times, but closing the blade quickly is not as important as opening it quickly in my estimation. It will improve over time. 4 1/2 Stars.

Pretty nice
After about a year and a half this knife is still great. But the veff serrations get messed up with one use I was cutting a hay bale apart and I wanted to try the serrations for a test they cut the baleing twine fine but the edge got rolled, they work fine its just cosmetic. I am planning on becoming a cop and I was looking at the M21-14 with the regular type of serrations and in black for carrying instead. The knife is great I love it but I wish CRKT made a tan M21 with regular serrations if your looking for a EDC get this or the M21 aluminum with regular serrations4and stars because of the veff serrations being weak

Bad to the Bone
This knife is great the veff serrations are super sharp. I have skinned bear with this knife and if you have ever skinned bear before you know what happens to the blade. The flippers are way affective for the blade. The clip is tight at first but after a few days it loosens up. The auto-lawk is not a problem it is easy to use and becomes muscle memory. This knife is not to big!!!!
